Guillaume Gonnet, Côtes du Rhône Rouge, Le Revêur, Southern Rhône, France, 2020

£19.50

80% Grenache/ 20% Syrah - 14% abv.

Probabaly the best-priced wine in our portfolio, this cheeky Côtes du Rhône from Guillaume Gonnet, was an absolute find at the end of last year, 2023. It is basically baby Châteauneuf-du-Pape, has wonderful depth and structure, a celebration of explosive dark fruits with beautifully balanced tannins. I personally can’t get enough of this wine!

This wine is fleshy, ripe and finishes with impressive forest-floor sweetness, rounded out by peppery tannins. Think crème de cassis, cherries, and a lovely note of liquorice on the palate.

The energetic and charismatic Guillaume Gonnet is not your average Rhône winemaker. Extremely open in his attitude, his curious, boundary-challenging approach extends beyond wine. He travelled to the far ends of the earth, revelling in the opportunity to surf some of the best waves in the world while learning his craft in various Australian and New Zealand regions. Returning to the Rhône, now with his Australian wife Kelly, Guillaume has shown similar energy for his family estate and for his own nascent project.

Pursuing biodynamics wherever possible, allowing his fruit to express itself freely through hands-off winemaking and displaying his fascination for the varying soils of the Rhône through his diverse range of wines.

Hand picked, the bunches are 100% destemmed, then fermented with natural yeasts and macerated for 15 to 20 days and aged in concrete tank.
