Bodegas Terra D’Art is a family-owned organic winery in the picturesque Valle de Ahillas, founded by husband and wife, Juan José Martinez Gordo and Amparo Palmero Ricarte. Their son, Juan José Martinez is the head winemaker. Starting in 2003 in their small garage at home, they produced 200 bottles of white wine, made from the local Merseguera grape variety, using the cold store in the family delicatessen to cool the wines! Each year they increased their production adding some reds, and now make 22’000 bottles of five different wines. For the whites they continue to use low yields of 80 yrs old Merseguera grapes, grown at 850-1150m altitude, in the small mountain valley surrounded by pine forests and wild meadows. For the reds they work with many different native Spanish varieties including Bobal, Prieto Picudo and Mencia. They make wine using sustainable, organic and biodynamic practices.

Soil: sand and gravel with a sandstone layer.

Viticulture: Goblet and double cordon. 15-80 yrs old vines. Hand-harvested and hand-selected in the vineyard.
